Bespoke Corian Water Feature at Birmingham Central Mosque.
A landmark Solid Surface Installation
Located within the main foyer of Birmingham Central Mosque – widely recognised as one of the oldest mosques in the UK. This bespoke solid surface water feature has been designed and fabricated to create an immediate visual impact for visitors entering the building.
Standing approximately 4 metres high by 4 metres wide, the installation combines contemporary solid surface fabrication with intricate Islamic design elements to create a striking architectural centrepiece.
Manufactured using Corian Nimbus Prima and Corian Evening Prima, two materials selected not only for their durability and seamless appearance, but also to complement the wider interior finishes throughout the mosque. These materials can also be located across several other areas of the building, including the ablution areas, staircases, window cills, and architraves. Creating a cohesive and elegant interior desing throughout the space.
Showcasing the Design Potential of Solid Surface
This project demonstrates the exceptional versatility and creative possibilities achievable with solid surface materials.
At the centre of the installation sits an illuminated inscription, that has been enhanced using integrated back lighting to bring both the flowing water-inspired pattern and the calligraphy to life. The lighting introduces depth, warmth and movement, transforming the feature into a visually engaging focal point within the foyer.
Designed as a fully functioning water feature, water gently cascades down the face of the illuminated panel, creating a calming and serene atmosphere. We carefully engineered a system to ensure the correct volume and flow rate of water was distributed. Allowing the water to fall at a smooth controlled pace that delivers a soothing experience for visitors entering the mosque.
The outer frame incorporates delicate and highly intricate fretwork detailing, adding texture and dimension while showcasing the precision that can be achieved through specialist CNC fabrication and expert finishing techniques.
One of the many stand out elements of this project is the seamless construction. Through advanced solid surface fabrication and expert joining methods, the entire installation appears as one continuous structure without visible joints. Achieving a refined, monolithic appearance throughout the whole feature.

- Seamless fabrication
- Integrated back lighting
- Intricate fretwork detailing
- Large-format architectural design
- Durable, low-maintenance surfaces
The completed installation now serves as one of the first features visitors experience upon entering Birmingham Central Mosque, and will be for years to come.
